Traffic Management (TM) plans are a critical component in ensuring the safe and effective implementation of temporary traffic management layouts. They provide a clear visual representation of where equipment will be installed and how traffic will be managed during works or events. These are often a mandatory requirement by Highway Authorities to support permit applications.

At Traffic Management London we specialise in the creation of precise, to-scale traffic management schemes using OS MasterMap tiles. These high-resolution base maps allow us to accurately illustrate the placement of all traffic control equipment – including cones, signs, barriers, temporary traffic signals, and more, ensuring clarity and compliance during installation on site.

Our in-house team of experienced CAD designers are dedicated exclusively to traffic management planning. We are equipped to deliver TM plans for projects across the entire UK, with the flexibility to respond quickly to urgent requests. While our standard turnaround time is two working days, we also offer same-day service for time-sensitive or emergency situations.

We provide comprehensive traffic management plans for a wide range of scenarios, including:

  • Tree surgery and arborist works
  • Crane lifts and heavy load logistics
  • Public events and festivals
  • Utility and infrastructure works
  • Highway resurfacing and maintenance

Whether the project involves road closures with clearly defined diversion routes, temporary traffic light installations, lane restrictions, or pedestrian safety measures, our plans are tailored to meet both regulatory standards and on-site practicalities.

With a commitment to accuracy, speed, and regulatory compliance, we are a trusted partner in delivering high-quality traffic management plans that keep road users, workers, and the public safe.

If you have a traffic management plan requirement that you need help with, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.

Traffic Management Plans (TMP / CTMP) FAQs

What is a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) and why is it needed?

A TMP is a detailed plan that shows how traffic (vehicular, pedestrian) will be controlled and diverted during construction roadworks, events, tree surgery etc ensuring safety and compliance with local authority/highway regulations.

When is a TMP required?

Usually for any works on or adjacent to public highways, road closures, lane closures, diversions, or where traffic will be disrupted. Many local authorities/planning departments require approval of TMPs before granting permits or planning consents.

How long does it take to prepare a TMP?

Standard turnaround for a TMP is two working days. If you require a faster turnaround, or even same day, please contact us as we are usually able to accommodate such requests.

What information do you need from me to prepare a TMP?

If can let us know your event or works area and the area you require to be closed from the public, we can then work out the traffic management solution around that.

Do you liaise with local authorities / highway departments?

Yes. We can manage approval submissions to local authorities, ensure compliance with their standards, address comments, and resubmit if needed.

What if the local authority rejects my TMP?

We will revise the plan according to their feedback, address concerns, and resubmit. Our experience and knowledge of local authority requirements help minimise rejection rates.

Can I modify a TMP mid-project?

Yes, although changes require updating the plan, re-evaluating impact (especially for safety), communicating with stakeholders, and possibly re-submitting to the authority. We can support modifications. Depening on what the changes are, there may be a charge.
